The "Double-dealer" Case: Superspy Ivan-Asen Georgiev - American Agent or Political Victim

September 8, 1963. In the Moscow Hotel "Metropolitan", investigators from the Bulgarian State Security ostentatiously and demonstratively arrest senior diplomat Ivan-Assen Georgiev. The suspicions are of espionage and treason. Apparently, the Bulgarian services want to create a fitting domestic echo of the recently concluded trial in the USSR against Colonel Oleg Penkovsky. However, the similarity between the two cases is like that between a horse and a hen. The analogies are grotesque: Penkovsky is a spy of world caliber, Georgiev is simply an underrated bon vivant.

However, the trial against Ivan-Assen Georgiev will be qualified as the disclosure and retribution of the largest espionage affair in modern Bulgarian history. In fact, a propaganda farce is being carried out that has very little to do with law.

What do the investigation and the prosecution have at their disposal and what is the behavior of the defense attorneys, what is the role of American intelligence and how does the "derby" between the CIA and the State Security end, what do a trial and a community theater have in common, is there a fake deal at the end of the trial between the prosecution and the accused?

And ultimately - who is the mythical Ivan-Asen Georgiev, considered the greatest traitor and traitor to the People's Republic of Bulgaria..

IN THE STATE GAZETTE NO. 37 OF MAY 5, 2000, A LAW WAS PUBLISHED DECLARING THE COMMUNIST REGIME IN BULGARIA A CRIME.

Its content is short and clear: IN FOUR ARTICLES IT IS INDICATED WHAT THE BULGARIAN COMMUNIST PARTY REPRESENTS IN THE PERIOD FROM

9 SEPTEMBER 1944 TO 10 NOVEMBER 1989.

Since it has been declared a criminal organization, why has no prosecutor general dealt with this issue so far in the above period? And our prosecutor generals should know, above all, that laws are created in order to be implemented. Any comments of any kind on this issue are superfluous. The current or future PROSECUTOR GENERAL must raise the curtain on this issue, because Bulgarian society is waiting for this. And finally, GOD FORBIDDEN that a similar case, as described in this book, will never happen again!
